Heatlegs walked through the forest, trying to forget the troubles of his apprentice's smart mouth and annoying attitude. He clawed at the ground as he lightly padded around, trying to catch the scent of prey. He started to whisper to himself after a while. "That annoying, little, mouse-brained, furball. She couldn't show respect for her life. If she ever at any time were to actually say something not followed by an insult, it would surely be the first and last!"
Then Heatlegs caught a scent. "Mouse." He followed the scent and hid in some bushes. There it was, big, plump, and juicy. Heatlegs licked his lips and got down into a great hunters crouch, slowly approaching the prey. He suddenly leaped at the prey. It heard him and started to scuffle away. Heatlegs barely missed and started to chase it. It ran into a thorn bush, and Heatlegs, distracted by trying to catch the prey, followed it in the bush. The prey got away, but Heatlegs was stuck in the bush. "Mouse-dung!" He started to pull and tug, but he was stuck in the bush too badly and he couldn't get out. Then, it suddenly started to rain. Heatlegs got even angrier. "Great, now I'm stuck in a bush and in the rain!"

"Um... do you need help?" Livana asked nervously. She had heard some of what the depu- no... what did Nightstorm call it again? Second in line? Yeah... that sounded about right. She had overheard some what second-in-line had said.
Who's he talking about?
She let the rain drench her black fur, and her unusual violet eyes stared at him.
I think you need to cool it... without rain, there wouldn't be water... right? Oh, who cares?
Her tail lashed, mad at her own stupidity.

Heatlegs heard the voice and wondered who it was, hopefully it wasn't a mountain cat chasing them further. He turned his head and was relieved to see that it was a friendly face. "What does it look like?" He yelled at her "Yes! Of course I need help! So why don't you just get moving and start untangling these thorns before my hair is red from my blood!"

She winced at Heatlegs' harsh words, but quickly obeyed, working as fast as she could so he wouldn't have to bite her ears off or something. Although, she wasn't really worrying about that.
You didn't have to be so harsh... Livana thought, her ears flattening against her ears. She didn't look mad, but more... scared. She made herself more angry with a response to herself.
Pah! Me, scared?! We've faced harder than this, so I should be more tough!
Angrily, she yanked the thorns out of Heatlegs' pelt with a slight scowl on her face. Once she had the job done, she muttered, "There, done. You happy now?"
After realizing what she had said, she thought, I hope he didn't hear that...

Heatlegs growled when he heard her words, then he turned around to face her, a slightly sorry expression on his face. "I'm sorry. Its just that when I get mad, I just. . ." He stopped, guessing that she already knew what he meant. Then he continued, acting as if he had never said the mean things he had said. "Well, anyway, thanks. I was trying to catch some prey and chased it right into the bushes. Then, when the rain started, I guess it was just too much. Sorry." Then he turned away again and got ready to start going looking for more prey.

Livana nodded, making it obvious that she was not going to reply. She scented the air.
Mousedung. The rain is perhaps becoming a little too thick.
Scenting the air again, Livana scented a mouse, but only vaguely.
Probably the one Heatlegs was going after.
Finally she scented a squirrel. She pin-pointed it, finding that it was on a tree.
Can I risk it?

Then Heatlegs scented squirrel too. He knew that the other cat probably already scented it, but he thought that he could catch it first. He looked around for a moment and spotted it up in a tree. It wasn't that high, so he might be able to catch it. He stepped back a little bit, got in the crouch, then jumped up from it and charged right up the tree. He quickly clawed his way up and caught the squirrel in his teeth. He dropped down the tree and got ready to take a bite of the squirrel, then he stopped and nosed it towards the she-cat. "Do you want some?" He offered.

Livana looked slightly thoughtful for a second.
"No, but thank you for the offer," She mewed.
Besides... the Clan needs fresh-kill. We probably shouldn't eat what we catch yet. She wanted to point that out, but she decided against it.
Continuing the hunt, she scented a mouse. She swiped her tongue around her jaws before stalking it. Once Livana was sure she was close enough, she sprang, but the mouse happened to be out of her reach, and scampered away.
Determined to not let her disappointment show, she mewed good-naturedly, "I guess I'm out of practice."

Heatlegs covered the squirrel up. He might eat it later. Then he padded over to the she-cat. "Hehehe. How about I help you out. By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what's your name?" He asked friendily.

"I'm Livana, Heatlegs. We met before, back at camp. We just never bothered to introduce each other," She replied, attempting to smile. Actually, it wasn't hard for her today. Putting away the thought of hunting for a moment, as she figured she'd start hunting again once Heatlegs started first.
Why am I being... eh... kind?

"Yeah, I've seen you around the camp before and stuff, but I guess I didn't remember your name." He said, trying to hold back his embarresment. "So, what brought you out here to look around in the forest." He asked, trying to forget the reason he had come out here himself.

Livana shrugged.
"I just wanted to be away from the camp. It's a smaller than I'd like, but that's just me. Just a bit used to open spaces, I guess," She mewed.

Heatlegs nodded, acknowledging what she said. He got up and got ready to head out again. "So, do you want to finish up this hunting and head back to camp in a little bit, don't you think?"

"Okay," She mewed, looking at the one squirrel, "Though I think we'll be out for a while. Maybe until the rain stops."
We'll be doing a lot of hunting, that's for sure... one squirrel won't be enough for a Clan of any size.

Heatlegs agreed with her. "Yeah, I guess your right. But it might be harder to catch prey when the rain kind of washes away the scent. So, lets get going. Tell me if you catch a scent." He got up and started to walk around, searching for a scent of mouse, squirrel, or any kind of bird.
